Make prudent use of our limited resources

The Department of National Planning and Monitoring (DNPM) was initially created as a function of the Prime Minister's Office soon after Independence and over a period spanning 20 years. It was called the Central Planning Unit and ensured all matters relating to planning activities around government's policy priorities.

Today DNPM boasts of a team of young and vibrant personnel entrusted with the responsibility to deliver functions mandated by the Planning and Monitoring Responsibility Act, 2016. The Planning and Monitoring Responsibility Act, 2016 formally establishes the Department of National Planning and Monitoring as a government department by law. It defines mandatory frameworks for national planning, annual budget, Medium Term Development Plan III (MTDP III) monitoring and evaluation, and national service delivery. It also provides a clear line of sight for policy priorities of the government and outlines a significant agenda for development planning and monitoring responsibilities. This is the overarching mandate given by law.
